This book was first published in 1954 and it didn't feel all that dated to me in terms of the environment the story is set in. Many people will have seen the movie starring Will Smith. The film vag
uely follows the book in some of the details but the novel version of Robert Neville is far darker. He's pretty much on his way to alcoholism. Drinking is his crutch when dealing with the plague of vampires outside his door each night. At the start of the story, he's not particularly a nice person and has a lot of dark thoughts. His character doesn't improve much either. Don't let that put you off though, that's part of what makes this book interesting. Just don't expect the movie version as this particular Robert Neville isn't out to save the world. I finally understand the title. I am Legend and what it means. 4*
